I went to my local asian shop to buy snacks and they only had 1 packet of chocolate Pocky left, lots of the green tea type and no cookies and cream Pocky.
Next to the Pocky I saw the Korean 'clone' version called Pepero so I grabbed every type they had to taste test as well as the last chocolate Pocky so I could do a review for us here.
In order there is the Almond, Choco Filled, Original and White Cookie (aka Cookies and Cream)
I opened the chocolate Pocky and original Pepero first and compared them side by side.
For comparison Pocky costs $1.49 a box and the Pepero $1.35 a box.
Pocky is obviously manufactured better than than the Pepero.
As the Pepero looked a lot lighter and not as smooth in the covering, wasn't just the one I got out all were like that.
They both are the exact same size and use identical patterns on the sticks as far as I could see with some very minor differences in them due to manufactoring.
Pocky is more uniform in its roundness compared to Pepero which isn't a perfect circle.
Compared to the box images Pocky looks better.
Taste testing by alternating sticks confirmed that for the chocolate Pocky at least, that has more of a fuller chocolate taste than the Pepero which was more a biscuity taste and I had trouble detecting any chocolate at all on my pallet.
The biscuit stick itself was more a drier taste on the Pepero with the Pocky feeling slightly more softer to the pallet.
I didn't really notice too much difference in pack size, then again I wasn't focusing too much on that as I was watching Kimi No Wa while wearing my Pikachu Onesie.
The receipt and packs on the images show them the same size.
I only since tried the Almond and White Cookie sticks and they were much better than the chocolate one.
I'm still yet to try the Choco Filled stick which I plan to do on my next Anime movie.
In order Almond, White Cookie and Choco Filled.
For The chocolate at least stick with Pocky as that has a much nicer chocolate taste for the extra 14 cents at least here your getting better chocolate which you can actually taste.
The other types of Pepero are not bad at all from what I have found.
